Review Policy

Version 1.1 · Last updated: October 17, 2026

Reviews on TutorPathway come only from families who really worked with a tutor through the marketplace. This policy explains who can review, what a review may contain, how reviews are checked and shown, and how they affect search. It is part of the Terms of Service.

1. Who can write a review

You can review a tutor only if all of the following are true:

  • you are the parent or guardian in a marketplace arrangement with that tutor;
  • you shared your child with the tutor ("Share my child's details with this teacher"), and the arrangement is active or has ended;
  • either a lesson for that child has been marked completed in the tutor's workspace, or — when the tutor records no lessons at all for that child — at least 14 days have passed since you shared your child;
  • your account is not suspended or banned.

You can write one review per arrangement. Tutors, administrators and anyone without such an arrangement cannot write reviews. TutorPathway never creates, buys, seeds or estimates reviews or ratings.

2. What a review contains

  • An overall rating from 1 to 5 stars, and optional ratings for communication, punctuality and teaching quality.
  • An optional title and a text of 20 to 2000 characters about your experience with the tutor's teaching.
  • Your review is shown with your first name only and the label "Verified family".

3. Rules for reviews

  • Write about your own experience with the tutor's teaching. Be honest and fair.
  • Do not name or identify your child, and do not include anyone's personal information.
  • Phone numbers, e-mail addresses and links are not allowed; a review that contains them is refused before it is saved.
  • No offensive, abusive or discriminatory language, no advertising, and no reviews written in exchange for a reward or a discount.
  • You can edit your review for 30 days after you first submit it. Every edit is checked again.

4. Automated checks and moderation

Every new or edited review is checked automatically. It is held for moderation instead of being published at once if:

  • it contains a word on our list of offensive words;
  • it mentions your child's name (from your child profile or the tutor's student record);
  • its text is shorter than 40 characters.

Otherwise it is published immediately. Our moderators publish a held review when it is about the tutor's teaching and identifies no child; otherwise they hide it (kept but not shown) or remove it, and you see the reason on your review page. Moderators never edit the text of a review, and nobody can moderate a review they wrote or one about themselves.

5. The tutor's response

The tutor can post one public response to each published review. Responses may not contain contact details and cannot be edited afterwards.

6. Reporting a review

The reviewed tutor and any signed-in parent can report a published review, once per person and review, choosing one of these reasons:

  • Not from a real family of this tutor
  • Offensive or abusive
  • Names or identifies a child
  • Contains contact or personal details
  • Factually wrong
  • Spam or advertising
  • Something else

Each person can file up to 10 review reports in any 24 hours. A moderator either upholds the report, which hides the review, or dismisses it, which leaves the review unchanged.

7. How ratings are shown

  • A tutor's average rating and number of reviews are calculated only from published reviews and are updated whenever a review is published, hidden or removed.
  • The average is shown only once a tutor has at least 3 published reviews. Below that, the profile and search results say "New on TutorPathway" instead of a rating.
  • Published reviews are listed on the tutor's public profile with any response.

8. Reviews and search

The only review-based signal in "Best match" ranking is the rating. It applies only from 3 published reviews and adds from 0 points (average of 3.0 or lower) to 10 points (average of 5.0). The review count itself does not change the ranking. The "Highly rated" badge is awarded automatically when: An average rating of at least 4.5 out of 5 from 5 or more verified reviews.
